Self-Worth Awareness Mentor

The Self-Worth Awareness Mentor program was born from watching too many young Black men try to act tough while quietly believing they do not matter. When a boy has been disciplined more than he has been encouraged, he often starts to live down to other people's expectations. Our work is to interrupt that story.

Using an "I matter" framework, we meet with young men individually and in small groups to explore who told them they were valuable-and who told them they were not. We listen to their experiences with school, family, and the justice system, then help them name the strengths they have used to survive. From there, we start building a different inner voice.

Sessions blend conversation, reflection, and action. Youth set personal goals in school, family, and community. They learn how to protect their time and energy, choose friends and environments that match their values, and speak up when something is not right. We connect self-worth to real decisions: what they post online, how they respond to disrespect, whether they show up on time.

Because we understand the systems they are navigating, we also teach them how their sense of value affects their records, opportunities, and future business or career paths. When it is the right fit, we bridge them into our coaching around conflict resolution or entrepreneurship so their growth shows up in behavior and income, not just words.

Caregivers and educators often notice changes first: better eye contact, more consistent effort, fewer explosions over small things. The young men start to carry themselves like their lives matter-because they have finally heard that message from someone who knows both their struggle and their potential.

If you know a young man who shrugs like nothing bothers him, but you can see the heaviness behind his eyes, a Self-Worth Awareness Mentor can help him rewrite his own story.
