Youth Innovation Mentoring

Youth Innovation Mentoring exists for the young man who looks around at the jobs offered to him and quietly thinks, "I want more than this." Too often, Black boys are tracked into limited roles, while their creativity, hustle, and problem-solving never get a chance to turn into ownership. We step in right there.

This mentoring program helps youth and young adults imagine, design, and start building their own business paths. We begin with what they already know-music, gaming, sneakers, hair, tech, cars, community needs-and show how each interest could become a service or product. Then we walk through the basics: identifying customers, setting fair prices, managing simple budgets, and keeping records clean.

Along the way, we talk about legal and practical realities in plain language: why contracts matter, how taxes work, and how to protect yourself when money starts moving. Drawing on years inside legal systems, we help young men avoid the traps that can shut down a good idea before it grows.

Youth Innovation Mentoring also connects directly to our other programs. A young man who is learning to manage conflict starts to see those skills as leadership tools in his business. Someone growing in self-worth begins to negotiate better, choose healthier partners, and say no to deals that disrespect his value.

Caregivers and schools often notice subtle shifts: a student who used to skip class now asking about marketing, a son who spent all his time online beginning to research vendors or local regulations. Entrepreneurship becomes more than a dream; it becomes a disciplined path away from the school-to-prison pipeline and toward economic independence.

If you know a young man with ideas and energy but no roadmap, Youth Innovation Mentoring offers him a guided route from "I wish" to "I own," supported by a mentor who believes his future can look very different from his surroundings.
